I'm sorry. I know that bragging isn't nice. But sometimes you just can't help it! And yesterday I performed at nothing less than Lars Von Triers 50th birtday party with my performance group. There are two pics from the backstage preparations and two pics from after the show in my galleri.
Sorry. Just had to share :-)

Dear Wendy

I just saw Dear Wendy last night, directed by Winterberg and written by Von Trier.

SO GREAT.

Once again it shows that cinema is not dead. Great idea by Von Trier and SUPPURB execution from Winterberg (he was the other main Dogma guy and directed The Celebration.)

I guess most y'all have some time to wait before you see it. It kicks ass though.

Your first Lars? Addicting.

I totally felt hooked the first time I saw one of his movie:
"Element of crime" in 1990.
I saw it 5 times in a month or two. The water element was so grabbing and sensual and the hero's mantra: "I believe in Joy" was intoxicating.

Lars is like a good dop.

How did you first met his movies?

Anti-American?

Dogville got heaps of criticism for being supposedly anti-American, while Dancer In The Dark tackled capital punishment in the US. As some of you may know, Dogville is the first in Von Trier's "USA" trilogy, the next of which (Manderlay) will be tackling slavery.

Also you may all know that Lars has never left Europe due to a paralyzing fear of flying. Is he anti-American?

Breaking the Waves

I just saw this for the first time this past weekend and I loved it. I had a discussion with my friend after watching it about why I didn't think it was depressing at all, but rather was quite sweet and inspired hope. I'm not arguing that it's not sad, but I do think that, as in other von Trier works, the main character gets some sort of vindication (or victory) in the end.

I heard The Kingdom finally came out on DVD ... but I can't find it. This is the closest I got online:
http://www.facets.org/asticat

And I also read that Breaking the Waves (DVD) is no longer in print ... any info?

I saw it in France about a year ago and intend to see it again in the theaters as well as forcing everyone I know to watch it.
